Bauchi To Reconsider Schools’ De-boarding, Policies –Commissioner

The Bauchi State Commissioner for Education, Dr Jamila Muhammad Dahiru, has said that her ministry is working towards reconsidering some policies of de-boarding schools to make the system functional in line with global best practices.

Besides, the ministry is also working on the issues of teachers’ recruitment as well as the regulation of private schools. Dahiru stated this during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting between the ministry and the state House of Assembly on schools’ management policies. She said decisions regarding the de-boarding of certain schools are in line with national minimum standards and are primarily driven by enrolment figures.

The commissioner emphasised that many schools lacked the necessary student numbers to function effectively as boarding institutions, necessitating the deboarding process.

“On the issues of private schools, they are our partners in progress,” Dahiru stated, highlighting the collaborative efforts between the ministry and private educational institutions. She however assured stakeholders that the ministry is committed to inclusivity and is actively working to enhance the overall standard of education in the state.
